Wiped Off the Map - Greensburg, Kansas (Article)
"The stories in newspapers nationwide said: "At 9:45pm on Friday, May 4, 2007, the lives of the nearly 1400 citizens of Greensburg, Kansas were changed forever." What they should have said was: "What happened on May 4, 2007 will change the lives of 2.7 million people forever." Why? Because the entire state of Kansas will feel the impact of the awesome tornado that devastated the town - today, tomorrow, and for years to come. This story is to exemplify the obstacles that a few of our fellow Kansas Association of Mappers (KAM) members had to face in order to "rebuild" the city."Full Story:

Google Mapplets - Developers Demo
Google Mapplets are a new feature of Google Maps that combines the Google Gadgets API with the Google Maps API to allow embedding mini-applications within the Google Maps website.

Mars Global Surveyor Still Silent

Two more attempts to regain contact with NASA's Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft failed this week.
The 10-year-old probe last had radio communication with Earth on Nov. 2, and NASA said earlier this week that the spacecraft's mission to map the surface of the Red Planet was likely at an end.
But efforts to find out if the orbiting spacecraft was still working continued, including transmitting commands for Mars Global Surveyor to send signals to the NASA rover Opportunity operating on the surface of Mars.[...]
