The New York Times - Strong Quake Kills at Least 6 in Northern Japan
A powerful earthquake and strong aftershocks rocked northern Japan on Saturday, killing at least six people and injuring more than 500 while knocking out power and phone services and cutting off gas and water, Japanese news media reported.

Kyodo News Agency also reported that five people had been buried alive, as aftershocks continued more than seven hours after the initial jolt with a magnitude of 6.8 hit rural Niigata Prefecture, a mountainous area 150 miles north of Tokyo.

Does it seem to anyone else that there have been a lot of both earthquake and volcanoes going off this year? I thought 4 hurricanes in Florida sounded bad, but Japan's had 10 Typhoons this year... damn..
