Honda betting that solar sells

According to Reuters, Honda Motor Company announced today that it will be going into the solar cell production business in 2007, when it builds a new plant in Kyushu, Japan.

The cells, designed for both residential and commercial applications will be composed of special non-silicon compound materials, which will not only be more cost-efficient to manufacture, the process by which they’ll be assembled will be more ecologically correct, as well. They will be sold to Japan’s domestic market only (at least initially), where they will compete with Mitsubishi Electronics, Kyocera, and Sharp, among others.
